The front of the medal of Saint Benedict is stamped with a cross on which is superimposed the letters CSSML on the upright beam and NDSMD in the cross beam. The letters stand for the Latin words Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux: Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux which means "May the Holy Cross be My Light: Let Not the Devil be My Guide."

The letters CSPB in the 4 angles around the cross stand for Crux Santi Patris Benedicti, the Latin for "Cross of the Holy Father Benedict."

Around the outer edge of the medal are the letters V.R.S.N.S.M.V. -- S.M.Q.L.I.V.B. which stands for the Latin Vade Retro Satana (Begone Satan) Nunquam Suade Mihi Vana (Never Suggest Vain Things to Me), Sunt Mala Quae Libas (What You Offer Me is Evil) Ipse Venena Bibas (Drink your own Poison).

At the top of the medal is stamped the Benedictine motto, "PAX" meaning "PEACE." On the back of the medal is the figure of Benedict holding a cross and the Holy Rule. On his right is the poisoned cup which broke when he made the sign of the cross over it. On his left is the pet raven carrying away the loaf of poisoned bread. Inscribed above the cup and raven are the words Crux S. Patris Benedicti - meaning "Cross of Holy Father Benedict."

About Us

We are a Catholic, family-owned apostolate based in sunny Southern California and dedicated to sharing our Faith through Fashion. Our name is a playful nod to the ocean {our love for the sea} and a tribute to the daily gifts of Grace and Mercy (mer-sea).

Led by designer (and self-proclaimed mermaid) Christina Chidley, we balance our addiction to summer fun, with a deep devotion to faith and family. Based in landlocked reality, but with a saltwater soul, Christina, balances her time between her growing family, teaching catechism with her homeschool co-op, creating awesome designs, and being a Son Chaser (as well as a sun-chaser).

We believe our Coastal Catholic beachwear lifestyle is a New Kind of Evangelization. There is a unique kind of peace found at the shoreline. Between the rhythmic pull of the tide and the vastness of the horizon, it's hard not to feel the presence of God the Creator. At MerSea Designs, we have always believed that the beauty of the ocean is a direct reflection of God's glory-and that our faith shouldn't be left at the door when we put on a swimsuit.

As a small family apostolate, we set out with a simple but bold goal: to create high-quality beachwear that allows you to "wear your faith" wherever the waves take you.
